The American newspaper New York Times writes about the meeting of US Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Smith with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and head of the KGB Ivan Tertel, during which they discussed the possibility of easing sanctions against Belarusian banks in exchange for the release of political prisoners.
‘In return, the United States would ease sanctions against Belarusian banks and exports of potash, a key ingredient in fertiliser, of which Belarus is the main producer,’ the NYT wrote.
The publication also stated about the transfer of three prisoners to Christopher Smith – an American and two Belarusians.
We shall remind you that earlier Reuters wrote about the intention of the United States to force Volodymyr Zelenskyy to sign ‘blindly’ an agreement on the exchange of Ukrainian minerals for US assistance in the armed conflict.
