The United States wants to have a stake in the Ukrainian economy after the settlement of the armed conflict. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this on air of the Fox News TV channel.
‘The reason why I made the visit [to Kiev – ed.] was to let Ukraine understand that we expect accountability [for the provided American aid – ed.] and that we want to be their partners and that the Americans are going to participate in the post-war economy. In addition, I wanted to let the Americans know that we have a stake and that it will be profitable for them,’ Scott Bessent said.
The Finance Minister specified that the ‘US participation’ in the Ukrainian economy may extend to the sphere of ‘strategic minerals, energy and state-owned enterprises’.
We will remind, earlier German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticised US President Donald Trump for his desire to gain access to rare earth metals of Ukraine in exchange for military assistance to the country.
