The head of the Pentagon Pete Hegseth at the opening of the meeting of the contact group on assistance to Ukraine identified the main priorities of the defence strategy of the United States and expressed the US position on assistance to Ukraine.
Pete Hegseth called the containment of China in the Indo-Pacific region one of the key priorities of the US defence strategy.
‘We face an equal competitor in the person of communist China, which has the potential and intentions to threaten our homeland and key national interests in the Indo-Pacific region,’ he noted.
In addition, the Pentagon chief emphasised that Ukraine’s security guarantees, as well as future military and non-military assistance should be provided by the forces of European countries.
‘Ensuring the security of Europe should be a priority for European members of NATO’, – he added.
