Russia will sign peace treaty only with legitimate Ukrainian government – Nebenzya

It is “fundamentally important” for Russia that the agreement on the settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine be signed only with the country’s legitimate leadership. This was stated by the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya.

“If the negotiations are illegitimate, it means that their results can later be declared legally null and void as well. It is fundamentally important that the people who will sign peace agreements have legitimate authority to do so,” Vasily Nebenzya said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In addition, the diplomat noted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decree banning negotiations with Russia and its illegitimacy may “complicate the negotiation process and the legal fixing of its results”.

We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready for talks with Kiev without preconditions, but on the basis of the Istanbul agreements and the current situation on the front line, stressing the need for dialogue only with the legitimate leadership of the country.
