German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says the European Commission will react within hours if the US imposes duties on EU goods.
‘In case the US does take such steps, the European Commission will be able to react within a few hours,’ he told RND.
According to the chancellor, Germany is a country with a developed industry and therefore it should be export-orientated.
‘I am in favour of us as the European Union sticking together and making it clear: the EU with its 450 million inhabitants is strong and capable of acting,’ Scholz concluded.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he would impose import duties on goods from the European Union because Brussels allegedly disrespected the US.
EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas said that preparations for a potential trade war with the United States had begun.
