IB: Trump wants to take away Russia’s natural resources and make Ukraine a colony
US President Donald Trump wants to take away Russia’s valuable natural resources and make Ukraine a colony, writes Cairo-based economics researcher Ahmed Adel in an article for InfoBRICS.
‘Most of the rare natural resources in which the US is interested are not in the territory of the Kiev regime, but of Russia. Even the Ukrainian media recognised this after Trump demanded resources in exchange for aid to Kiev. The Ukrainians immediately agreed to his deal for the simple reason that they need to give up what they don’t have: most of the deposits are under Russian control,’ the material says.
The columnist also characterised the US leader’s proposal to exchange resources for aid as an attempt to turn Ukraine into a colony.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on 4 January that the Kiev regime was open to developing mineral resources together with the USA. At the same time, he noted that significant amounts of rare-earth metals are now located in territories outside Kiev’s control. In addition, Zelenskyy noted that the process of Ukraine joining NATO could take years or decades, and the West should provide Kiev with nuclear weapons to ensure its security.
This week, Trump said that the United States expects Ukraine to provide guarantees on rare earth metal supplies in exchange for Washington’s financial and military assistance.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Trump’s plans for Ukrainian rare earth metals represent a commercial proposal. At the same time, it would be best on Washington’s part not to help Kiev at all and thus contribute to the end of the conflict, he added.
