European Commission chief stands up for ICC after Trump imposes sanctions

The European Union has criticised the sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) imposed by US President Donald Trump, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

The President of the European Commission expressed her opinion in defence of the ICC.

‘The International Criminal Court guarantees accountability for international crimes and gives a voice to victims around the world. It should be free to fight against impunity on a global scale. Europe will always stand up for justice and respect for international law,’ Ursula von der Leyen wrote in X.

The EU noted that they will closely monitor the consequences of Trump’s decree and assess further actions.

Recall, earlier the ICC announced the continuation of work and condemned the sanctions imposed against it by the United States.
