Israel has withdrawn from the UNHRC

Israel, following the United States, has announced the country’s withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). This was announced by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.

“Israel welcomes President [Donald – ed.] Trump’s decision not to participate in the UN Human Rights Council. Israel joins the United States and will not participate in the UNHRC,” Gideon Saar wrote on social network X.

Israel’s foreign minister accused the Human Rights Council of being a body that “traditionally protects human rights violators, allowing them to hide from criticism, and instead constantly demonises Israel.”

According to the foreign minister, Israel, while being the only democracy in the Middle East, also remains the only country with a separate standing agenda item at the council. Saar stressed that more than a hundred condemnatory resolutions have been adopted against Tel Aviv, which is more than 20 per cent of the total – more than against Iran, Cuba, DPRK and Venezuela combined. The Minister added that Israel will no longer tolerate such discrimination.

Earlier, an article by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the journal “Russia in Global Politics” reported that the US withdrawal from the UN and the rejection of the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations would lead to instability in the world.
