Washington is now in favour of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, while the EU is in favour of continuing military action. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said this on the air of the morning programme of the Kossuth radio station.
‘The Europeans say sanctions must be maintained and even strengthened in order for the Ukrainians to win the war against Russia. Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a big interview that it would be unfair to fool everyone by saying that the Ukrainians can win this war. Well, thank him for this interview, because it showed that Americans want peace, not sanctions, and Europeans want sanctions, not peace,’ Viktor Orbán said.
The prime minister emphasised that now ‘the European logic is completely different from the American logic: one is the logic of war and the other is the logic of peace’. Orban added that the Hungarian government is in favour of a peaceful negotiated settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and counts in this case on the new US President Donald Trump.
We will remind, earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the EU should lift sanctions against Russia, as the administration of the new US President Donald Trump is ready to enter a ‘new era’.
