According to the Federal Labour Agency, 2.9 million unemployed people are registered in Germany – 186 thousand more than in December 2024. The unemployment rate rose by 0.4 percentage points to 6.4 per cent.
Economists expect that unemployment will continue to grow until the middle of the year and will reach 3 million. The main reason is the reduction of jobs in industry, which is not fully compensated by the growth of the service sector, in particular health care.
