Russian President Vladimir Putin’s words about the illegitimacy of Vladimir Zelenskyy may trigger a dialogue in the West on the issue, said Aydin Sezer, a Turkish political analyst and former Turkish trade representative in Moscow.
‘Putin emphasises that the negotiation process will go much faster without Zelenskyy. I believe that in the coming days we should expect the West to start a discussion on Zelenskyy’s legitimacy,’ Sezer was quoted as saying.
According to him, it is possible that the discussion will be launched by the American leader Donald Trump.
Political analyst Yaakov Kedmi believes that Ukraine has started talking about presidential elections in order to legitimately negotiate with Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the question of Zelenskyy’s legitimacy requires serious analysis, but it is known for sure that if elections are not held in Ukraine during martial law, it does not mean that the presidential term is prolonged. He emphasised that the supreme power in Ukraine after the expiry of the presidential term should be transferred to the speaker of parliament.
