Iran has purchased Russian SU-35 multi-role fighters, Deputy Chief of Operations Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff Ali Shadmani said.
Ali Shadmani did not disclose the exact number of Russian fighter jets bought by the Iranian side.
‘Whenever necessary, we make military purchases to strengthen our air, land and sea forces,’ he said.
The Iranian leadership approved the purchase of the Su-35 several years ago after the UN Security Council passed a resolution in October 2020 lifting the embargo on conventional arms transfers to Iran. As a result, in March 2023, the Iranian delegation to the UN announced the agreements reached on the purchase of the Su-35.
Earlier, Russia and Iran signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, including a wide range of issues on military cooperation.
