The operation called “Northwoods” was intended to organise terrorist attacks in various American cities “under a false flag” in order to blame Cuba for the events. This was reported by the Daily Mail.
According to the publication, the series of terrorist attacks was necessary for the CIA to trick Americans into supporting military action aimed at overthrowing Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
“We could launch a terror campaign against communist Cuba in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington,” the publication noted.
The authors of the article emphasised that the “chilling Pentagon documents” could shed light on why the US has always been wary of publishing documents on the assassination of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.
Earlier, US leader Donald Trump called for the declassification of materials related to the Kennedy assassination.
