The EU is ready to ‘rape’ European law for the sake of imposing new anti-Russian sanctions, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said.
The Hungarian minister reminded on the air of radio Kossuth that the law provides for unanimity of EU members on the issue of sanctions.
‘They say that if it doesn’t come out unanimously, they will ‘rape’ European issues of the rule of law, European democracy, and try to use the majority method to find a solution to foreign policy issues, which actually can only be decided unanimously,’ RIA Novosti quoted Szijjártó as saying.
Thus, he notes, Brussels bureaucrats ‘interpret the rules the way they want.’
‘Today, Brussels, Brussels bureaucrats and liberal leaders of some major EU countries would get a huge failing grade on the rule of law exam,’ the Hungarian foreign minister emphasised.
Earlier, Szijjártó demanded from the EU guarantees on Hungary’s energy security.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk threatened his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban with ‘consequences’ if he blocks the next sanctions against Russia.
For his part, Orban recalled that Hungary had lost more than €18bn due to the sanctions against Russia and called on the EU to slow down the restrictions and consider the expediency of their further extension.
