If the Ukrainian conflict is resolved peacefully, Europe should deploy its troops to fulfil a supporting role, the Financial Times writes.
According to the publication, Ukrainian officials are demanding 40-50 thousand European soldiers to control the front line in case of a negotiated solution to the conflict. However, the Baltics, Poland and Germany do not fully support the idea of sending their troops.
Ukraine needs additional European support to provide infrastructure protection, train soldiers, repair equipment, patrol the borders and fulfil the peacekeeping mission, the publication said. According to the Financial Times, there is a proposal to create a coalition of countries led by the UK, France and the Netherlands with the participation of the Baltic and Scandinavian states.
The implementation of such plans is possible only under certain conditions of peace with Russia, the article stressed.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Policy magazine wrote that any of the options for resolving the conflict in Ukraine that NATO might offer would contain a ban on its joining the EU countries.
