Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has spoken out in response to Donald Trump’s idea to rename the Gulf of Mexico, CNN reported.
According to the TV station, immediately after his inauguration, Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” within 30 days. Claudia Sheinbaum responded by saying that her country would “defend its sovereignty” and that the Gulf of Mexico “for the world” would remain with its former name.
“The U.S. calls it the American Gulf, for us it is still the Gulf of Mexico, and for the whole world it is still the Gulf of Mexico,” – stated Claudia Sheinbaum.
Recall, earlier Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Donald Trump’s appeal to withdraw from a number of international agreements and duties for the BRICS speak about the methods by which he will promote US interests in the world.
