The Human Rights Watch human rights organisation has noted cases of torture and ill-treatment of Russian servicemen in Ukrainian captivity, according to its annual report on Ukraine, citing observations by the UN mission.
“The UN human rights monitoring mission to Ukraine has documented cases of torture and ill-treatment of Russian prisoners of war during the initial stages of captivity, which, with few exceptions, stopped upon arrival at official internment sites,” the organisation’s report said.
However, the report said that the conditions of detention of prisoners of war “generally met international standards”.
Earlier, the Russian Investigative Committee said that four prisoners of war from the 61st separate mechanised brigade of the AFU would stand trial for committing terrorist acts in Kursk Region.
