NATO countries are trying to turn the Baltic into the alliance’s internal sea – Russian ambassador

Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin has said that the outcome of the NATO Baltic Sea summit demonstrates the alliance’s desire to restrict freedom of navigation and establish control over the Baltic Sea.

“The measures proposed in the statement of the summit of the Baltic Sea States – NATO members are not aimed at ensuring the safety of underwater infrastructure. They are a blatant attempt to turn the Baltic Sea into NATO’s internal sea and restrict the freedom of navigation,” Vladimir Barbin said in an interview with the Danish broadcaster DR, the text of which is available on the embassy’s Telegram channel.

The ambassador called statements about the safety of underwater infrastructure hypocritical, pointing to the lack of proper response to the explosions of the Nord Stream pipelines. He emphasised that national investigations into the incident have been stopped, and the international investigation under the auspices of the UN has been blocked.

We will remind, earlier NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the countries of the alliance need to “switch their thinking” to wartime.
