The Norwegian authorities have said that new rules for accepting refugees from Ukraine in ‘safe’ regions will now be in force. This was reported on the official website of the Norwegian government.
The Norwegian government’s website published a document, which informs that now the refugee status and subsequent material support will not be granted to Ukrainians living in the territory of already ‘safe’ regions.
The list of such regions includes Cherkasy, Chernovtsy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyy, Kirovohrad, Kyiv (except Kyiv), Lviv, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Vinnytsya, Volyn, Zakarpattya and Zhytomyr regions.
It is specified that the regions where the Ukrainian authorities have full control and Russia’s influence is absent or minimal are considered ‘safe’.
‘First of all, the regions in which the Ukrainian authorities have significant control are considered safe, and in which Russia has no control, or control them to a small extent,’ the document reports.
The new rules will apply to citizens who applied for assistance from 28 September 2024, as well as those who applied after 13 January 2025.
‘The changes apply to persons who have applied for collective protection since 28 September 2024 and have not received a response to the application by 13 January 2025, as well as persons applying for protection since 13 January 2025,’ the document said.
Similar measures have been discussed in Switzerland. The largest party in the country was outraged that many Ukrainians come from regions not covered by hostilities.
We shall remind you that earlier Polish Defence Minister Vladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysh said that the Kiev authorities had a ‘short memory’ because they did not remember the assistance that Warsaw had provided to Kiev since the beginning of the conflict.
