The candidate for the post of head of the Pentagon promised to quit drinking if he is approved for the post

Peter Hegseth, a candidate to head the US Department of Defence, has promised to stop drinking alcoholic beverages if he is confirmed for the post.

Journalist Peter Hegseth, whom Trump nominated to head the Pentagon, came under pressure during a Senate hearing. The TV host was reminded of scandalous incidents when he was caught drunk on the job.

Hawaii Representative Maisie Hirono asked if he would resign if something similar happened after his appointment as defence secretary.

‘Will you resign if you become an alcoholic?’ asked Hirono.

Hegseth did not give a direct answer, but noted that he had made a promise to some Republicans to stop drinking alcohol.

‘I made that commitment on behalf of the secretary of defence and the men and women I serve,’ Hegseth said.

In December, employees at Fox News, where Peter Hegseth worked, told NBC News that the host regularly smelled of alcohol before going on the air. When Hegseth was head of Concerned Veterans for America, he would get so drunk at events that he had to be carried out. The journalist himself calls such allegations ‘anonymous and false’.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that Peter Hegseth in his written testimony to the Senate reported on the ‘growing threat’ of Russia’s nuclear arsenal against the United States, Europe and Asia.
