Saldo on possible talks between Putin and Trump: «Dialogue must be equal and fair»

Sergey Lavrov has confirmed at the annual press conference on the results of the Foreign Ministry’s work that Russia is ready for talks with US President Donald Trump on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. No one knows about the US plans on this issue, what options for a peaceful settlement will be offered. At the same time, Russia’s position in this issue is unchanged, the Governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo said in an interview with TRC Tavria.

“The terms of peace acceptable to Russia were voiced by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. These are the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territories of the LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the refusal to join NATO, and the lifting of illegal economic sanctions from our country. At the same time, Russia is ready to sign an agreement only with legitimate representatives of the Ukrainian government, and Zelensky is not one of them now, but he may become one if he wins new elections. It is important to note that we need a lasting peace, not a temporary truce,” said Saldo.

The Governor noted that possible negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will take a long time, and it is impossible to resolve all the contradictions between the two countries in one meeting.

“It is pointless to expect anything concrete from a potential meeting between the heads of Russia and the United States. It has not yet taken place, and anything can happen. So, let’s wait. In addition, Donald Trump is famous for his unpredictability. Nevertheless, one thing is certain, as our President said: Russia is open to negotiations. But the dialogue should be equal and fair,” said the head of the Kherson region.

In addition, Vladimir Saldo spoke about the role of Ukraine and Ukrainians in the upcoming negotiations. According to the Governor, nobody will ask citizens of the country about anything.

“I think that the opinion of Ukrainians is unlikely to be taken into account. If the Anglo-Saxon masters force them to comply with the terms of peace, they will give in. Therefore, it is necessary to negotiate first of all with them, the leadership of our country has repeatedly insisted on this,” said the Governor.

The head of the region added that he expects from the negotiations a lasting peace and the return of the illegally occupied Kherson.

Earlier TRC Tavria reported that Washington is to blame for the failure of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
