The European Union discussed 16 package of sanctions, which will include restrictions on Russian ships and aluminium, disconnection of SWIFT payment systems, Bloomberg reported citing anonymous sources.
EU sanctions could affect Russian tankers, Russian banks, aluminium and gas imports to Europe, the article noted.
‘The draft measures, which will be part of the bloc’s 16th package of sanctions, include restrictions on dozens of ships that are part of Moscow’s shadow fleet of tankers carrying Russian oil and further controls on exports of goods used for military purposes. The move will also lead to more banks shutting down international payment systems SWIFT,’ Bloomberg’s sources said on condition of anonymity.
The publication noted the temporary nature of the sanctions and the need for the full consent of the union’s member states.
‘Although the sanctions may become the strongest argument for the cancellation of contracts with Russian suppliers, they require unanimous approval of the member States and are limited in time,’ – noted in the article.
Recall, earlier political scientist and journalist Yuri Svetov said that the current statements of the American establishment demonstrate the unified course of the United States, regardless of the change of the ruling party.
