The head of the Estonian Interior Ministry’s Border and Migration Policy Department, Janek Mägi, said in an interview with Postimees that the agency sees no need to close the border with Russia.
‘The Ministry of the Interior is based on a threat assessment. At present, there is no threat assessment that would require closing the eastern border,’ RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
At the same time, earlier Estonian opposition party Isamaa initiated a bill to close the country’s border with Russia because of alleged hybrid attacks conducted by it.
On 8 January, it became known that Finland would leave the border with Russia closed because the assessment of the ‘threat’ from the east remains unchanged.
