Peter Hegseth, candidate for Pentagon chief, said in written testimony to the Senate that Russia’s nuclear arsenal has become a ‘growing threat’ to the US, Europe and Asia.
The US needs to devote more resources to preventing ‘a possible nuclear attack by an adversary,’ Peter Hegseth said. According to him, the country’s ‘survival depends on the development of the nuclear triad’.
‘Russia has significantly increased its nuclear arsenal, which poses a threat to US territory, as well as a tactical nuclear arsenal that threatens its neighbours in Europe and Asia,’ he conveyed in the message.
Also, according to the candidate for the post of head of the Pentagon, under the new President of the United States, the country will focus on building a system of deterrence of ‘aggression of the PRC’ in the Indo-Pacific region.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would not allow Ukraine to acquire nuclear weapons. The head of state noted that in such a case the country would be forced to use all its available means of defeat.
