The EU is wary of Trump and Putin’s talks

European Union countries fear direct talks between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin without the participation of representatives and without taking into account the positions of the association’s states. This was reported by the portal Euractiv, citing sources among diplomats of the community’s countries.

The portal’s sources said that the EU was eager to secure its participation in the negotiations on Ukraine, but “risks only getting seats on the side chairs”.

“The biggest concern is the scenario in which [Donald – ed.] Trump will hold bilateral talks with Putin, bypassing the Europeans,” the portal quoted them as saying.

According to Euractiv, the format of potential negotiations is still unknown, no concrete plans on paper now.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow is ready for talks with Kiev without preconditions, but on the basis of the Istanbul agreements and the current situation on the front line, stressing the need for dialogue only with the legitimate leadership of the country.
