German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius handed over to Kiev the first of 54 Boxer RCH 155 wheeled self-propelled artillery units (SAU) of the Franco-German defence group KNDS, his speech was broadcast by the Welt newspaper.
Earlier KNDS announced that it would produce 54 RCH 155 wheeled howitzers on Ukraine’s order.
‘Ukraine, and this is a signal, can count on us. And Germany is ready to take responsibility in Europe,’ Boris Pistorius said during the handover of the first RCH155 to Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksiy Makeyev.
The RCH 155 self-propelled artillery unit, according to the manufacturer, is equipped with an AGM automated artillery module, allowing it to fire 155mm shells on the move. The control of the SAU is fully digital, requiring a crew of only two people: driver and commander. The concern plans to fully automate firing and introduce a remote control system.
We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on possible US deliveries of THAAD and Patriot systems to Ukraine and offered the West a ‘technological duel’ in Kiev.
