Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto told Reuters in an interview about a possible increase in defence spending by the club’s member states from 2% of GDP, but less than 5%, as proposed by US President Donald Trump.
Reuters reports that raising defence spending to 5% of GDP has caused discontent among alliance officials, but at the same time, they approve of the very idea of increasing defence spending. According to experts, raising spending to 5% of GDP is impossible for many alliance member states.
‘It looks like there will be a change. I don’t think it will be 5%, which would be impossible for almost every country right now, but it will not be two (per cent), which we are already trying to achieve, it will be more than two,’ Guido Crozetto said in an interview with the agency
We shall remind you that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine was unable not only to fight but also to exist in general without the support of European countries.
