Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on European affairs about the possible blocking of financial aid to Ukraine, if it turns out that Ukraine is blocking gas transit.
Kiev has rejected the possibility of extending the agreement on the supply of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine, in connection with which Gazprom has stopped the supply of gas from 1 January 2025.
‘If we are informed in three weeks that Ukraine is blocking everything, I will block financial aid to Ukraine without any problems,’ the prime minister said.
According to Fico, Vladimir Zelenskyy is deliberately disrupting the financial stability of Slovakia and the European Union, as the European Commission noted that there was nothing preventing Ukraine from continuing to pump gas.
The politician estimated the damage to Slovakia from the impossibility to transfer Russian gas to the EU countries at 500 million euros annually, while the entire EU – 70 billion euros.
Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that a complete halt of Russian gas transit through Ukraine would cause significant problems for the European Union countries.
