The cancellation of martial law in Ukraine may not happen after the settlement of the conflict, the Ukrainian edition ‘Strana’ reported with reference to the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Yaroslav Yurchyshyn.
Yaroslav Yurchyshyn said that the cancellation of martial law after the cessation of hostilities will depend on ‘the conditions of the peace agreement and the availability of security guarantees’.
‘Three days of no shelling, cessation of hostilities. We cancel martial law, and on the fourth day, the Russians barge in with all their might. This will not do,’ the MP said.
According to him, presidential elections and the opening of state borders in Ukraine can take place only after martial law is cancelled. Yurchyshyn called this process long, as ‘law enforcement agencies will need to decide whether the state is ready to ensure the safety of citizens’.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine was unable not only to fight but also to exist in general without the support of European countries.
