Greenland says it is ‘looking forward’ to co-operating with the US

Greenlanders are ‘looking forward’ to co-operation with the US, Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt has said.

Greenland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Independence Vivian Motzfeldt has released a statement saying that the island’s authorities are ready to co-operate with new US President Donald Trump.

‘Greenland looks forward to a dialogue with the United States on economic cooperation in the field of mining and the development of significant mineral resources,’ Motzfeldt said.

In particular, the minister expressed readiness to discuss opportunities for joint co-operation in the field of business, development of the country’s mineral industry and in other directions. The official statement stresses that Greenland is open for constructive dialogue and welcomes the interest of other countries to work together. It is also emphasised that it is the local population that has the right to determine the future of their country.

Recall, earlier Donald Trump said that ‘ownership and control of Greenland by the United States is absolutely necessary’.
