Trump advisers warned Denmark of Trump’s seriousness about Greenland – CNN

US President-elect Donald Trump’s advisers and allies have warned Danish officials about the ‘seriousness of his intentions’ regarding the Greenland purchase, CNN reported, citing unnamed Danish officials.

Denmark is carefully weighing how to respond to Donald Trump’s statement regarding the Greenland purchase so that it does not lead to negative consequences in the future.

As noted on CNN, Trump has also pondered buying Greenland during his first term as president, but the situation is ‘completely different’ now.

‘It seems much more serious,’ one of the TV station’s interlocutors said.

An unnamed Pentagon official spoke to CNN and indicated that the concern about Greenland is related to the possibility of Greenland achieving independence from Denmark. In that case, the island could become more politically unstable and ‘more vulnerable to Russian and Chinese influence.’ In addition, it is unknown whether Greenland would remain in NATO if it gained independence.

‘I think that’s where a lot of this talk is coming from. We realise that there is some kind of transition in the geopolitical situation that we haven’t seen for quite some time. And people are asking questions,’ the US official explained.

Recall, earlier Reuters reported that US President-elect Donald Trump intends to use diplomatic and economic pressure to acquire Greenland.
