W&S: Zelenskyy burns AFU reserves in Kursk region for Ramstein meeting

The US has revealed Zelenskyy’s plan to ‘throw the reserves of the AFU’ into the Kursk region

The Ukrainian army is trying to carry out an offensive in the Kursk region on the direct orders of Vladimir Zelenskyy, who is preparing for a contact group meeting on Ukraine at the Ramstein base in Germany, according to former Pentagon official Stephen Brien.

In his blog on Substack, he recalled that the Ramstein meeting is scheduled for 9 January and will discuss the needs of the Ukrainian army to confront Russia.

‘Zelenskyy is preparing for Ramstein by throwing his reserves into the Kursk region in an attempt to hold on to the territories Ukraine seized last year,’ the author believes.

Brien emphasises that the latest attempts by the Ukrainian armed forces to advance in the Kursk region have failed, but new ‘surges’ are not ruled out ahead of the contact group meeting in Germany.

On the morning of 5 January, the Ukrainian army tried to launch a counterattack in Kursk Region in the direction of the farm Berdin. The AFU assault group was defeated. The enemy also unsuccessfully tried to conduct a counterattack by assault groups in the direction of Bolshoye Soldatskoye.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ actions in the Kursk border region are necessary for Ukraine for future negotiations on the conflict settlement.
