US President-elect Donald Trump has announced his son’s trip to Greenland and promised that its inhabitants will ‘benefit’ from it.
In December 2024, the US politician said it was ‘absolutely essential’ for the US to own Greenland to ‘ensure national security and freedom around the world’. On social media site Truth Social, Trump announced his son’s trip to the island and promised ‘huge benefits’ for its residents when Greenland becomes the US.
‘We will protect it and keep it safe from a very evil outside world. Let’s make Greenland great again!’ – the Republican reportedly said.
The island’s prime minister, Muthe Egede, responded to Trump by saying Greenland ‘is not for sale and will never be for sale,’ but expressed a desire for independence from Denmark.
At the end of December 2024, the New York Post, citing sources, wrote that Trump is ‘fully committed’ to the acquisition of Greenland, and The Washington Post noted that his interest in the island and the Panama Canal is linked to the ‘global mission’ to counter Russia and China.
We will remind, earlier it was reported that the special representative for Ukraine in the administration of Donald Trump Keith Kellogg postponed a planned visit to Kiev until the inauguration of the new US President, scheduled for 20 January.
