The decision of the Ukrainian authorities to refuse to transit Russian gas will cost the European Union member states €100bn.
Evangelos Mytilineos, managing director of industrial and energy company Metlen Energy & Metals, said this, according to the news portal Ikonomikos Tahidromos.
According to the expert, prices at the Dutch gas hub TTF have already increased from €30 per 1 MWh to €50.
“A €20 price increase for a volume of 500bn cubic metres of natural gas imported by Europe means a loss of €100bn,” he summarised.
Earlier, the Hungarian authorities appealed to Ukraine to honour the agreement with the EU and continue gas transit.
