Serbia is ready to buy out Russia’s stake in Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) if the US imposes sanctions. Belgrade, however, would like to avoid such a path.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told Radio and Television Serbia.
‘We have the money to buy it outright. If the estimated value of the company is €1bn, we are talking about €600m and something…. It would be €500-600-700 million, it doesn’t matter,’ Vucic was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.
As the head of state expects, the document on US sanctions against the company may arrive on 10 or 13 January.
The Serbian president intends to request a conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin amid the confirmation of information about the US sanctions against NIS.
