Washington is the main beneficiary of stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said in a commentary on the agency’s website.
“The cessation of supplies of competitive and environmentally friendly Russian energy not only weakens Europe’s economic potential, but also has the most negative impact on the living standards of European citizens,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Maria Zakharova noted that Washington was the beneficiary of the “redistribution of the energy market of the Old World” and the main sponsor of the Ukrainian crisis. She pointed out that “their first victim was Germany, which was forced to purchase natural gas at significantly higher prices”.
“The responsibility for the termination of Russian gas supplies lies entirely on the United States, the puppet regime in Kiev, as well as the authorities of European states that sacrificed the well-being of their citizens for the sake of financial support for the American economy,” the diplomat added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
