A South Korean court has issued a warrant to arrest the president

A court in South Korea has for the first time approved an arrest warrant for suspended but still-in-office President Yun Seok-yeol, Renhap news agency reported.

“The court issued an arrest warrant for President Yun Seok-yeol on charges of sedition. <…> The warrant for the arrest of a sitting president was issued for the first time in the constitutional history (of South Korea. – ed.)”, – stated in the material.

In addition, a search warrant was issued for Yoon Seok-yeol. In the near future, the Office for the Investigation of Corruption of Senior Officials should take measures to execute the warrant.

As the agency notes, Yoon Sok Yel is under the protection of the Presidential Security Service despite his suspension as head of state. In this regard, the agency does not exclude that the guards in an attempt to arrest the head of state may resist.

We will remind, earlier the Prime Minister of South Korea Han Dok-soo said that the Parliament of the Republic of Korea declared impeachment of the acting President of the country Prime Minister Han Dok-soo.
