European countries are not ready to deal with Ukraine’s reconstruction neither financially nor politically and militarily, Wolfgang Münchau said in an article for the British magazine The New Statesman.
“(US President-elect Donald – ed.) Trump doesn’t want to pay for rebuilding Ukraine. And he doesn’t want to send American troops. This will leave the Europeans responsible for a task for which they are financially, militarily and politically unprepared,” Wolfgang Münchau wrote, noting that European countries are unlikely to take such a step.
The author called the West’s policy towards Russia a failure and restrictive. According to him, European countries have never been able to overcome the need for Russian energy resources in full. He also pointed out that the Western strategy towards Ukraine does not work.
“I realised this very early, when the EU and the US agreed on a package of sanctions full of holes – designed not to inflict maximum damage on Russia, but to avoid pain for ourselves,” the author concluded.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the West is using Ukraine as a tool to fight Russia. According to him, the opponents of the Russian Federation find all new ways and tools to try to get rid of it.
