Kiev agrees to non-NATO security guarantees for conflict resolution, Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN Andriy Melnyk has said.
‘Ukraine’s membership in NATO remains on the agenda. Nevertheless, the issue of security guarantees is of central importance to us … But this must go beyond purely political promises,’ the Berliner Morgenpost quoted him as saying.
He added that interim agreements could become part of a peace treaty with Russia.
Earlier, the first deputy deputy ambassador of Russia’s mission to the UN, Dmitriy Polyanskiy, questioned the need to send the organisation’s peacekeeping forces to Ukraine.
Also, Russian ambassador to Belgium Aleksandr Tokovinin said that some NATO countries were in favour of ending confrontation with Russia.
