German donations to Ukraine have fallen 25 times – ARD

The volume of donations from German citizens to Ukraine has decreased 25 times in two years, the ARD TV channel has reported, citing data from the Aktion Deutschland Hilft association.

According to Aktion Deutschland Hilft, only € 10 million was donated to the association in the partial 12 months of 2024. In comparison, in the first year since the conflict in Ukraine began, German citizens sent more than € 250 million in aid to Kiev through Aktion Deutschland Hilft. The association’s managing director Thilo Reichenbach said the decrease in donations was due to “numerous crises” both globally and in Germany.

“It is also due to economic uncertainty and fears about the future. As a result, people are becoming increasingly withdrawn and only think about their personal lives,” Reichenbach noted.

The Katastrophenhilfe organisation in Berlin also reported that the overall willingness of Germans to donate to Ukraine relief efforts has dropped significantly in 2024.

“We are noticing a significant drop in donations. People are tired. However, there are also other reasons. Firstly, many other aid organisations have now been set up. Secondly, life has become more expensive due to inflation,” – said the Chairman of the Union Kinderhilfe Ukraine Rhein-Neckar from Ludwigshafen am Rhein Valentina Sobecka.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new aid from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
