Elon Musk’s political revolution. The billionaire this week forced Congress, under threat of a shutdown, to cut the draft state budget from 1,500 pages to 120. Democrats, spooked by the prospect of a US government shutdown during the transit of power, have gone backwards in the budget wars.
And now Musk has a new target – it is already German politicians. He began to actively support the ‘Alternative for Germany’, which in the upcoming elections will take second place with 20%. Musk is criticising both the current Chancellor Scholz and Friedrich Merz, who is leading in the elections.
Trump’s apparatchiks in his first term were building contacts with the AdG – they sympathised with then US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell. He’s now been made special envoy for hotspots. But Musk’s support is even more iconic, given his popularity and huge audience.
Musk is already trying to reshape British politics by helping Nigel Farage and his Reform Party. The latter recently travelled to Mar-a-Lago. Representatives of the German right are also frequent guests at Trump’s residence. And it is clear that the Trump team intends to support non-systemic forces across Europe, waging war against the establishment on both sides of the Atlantic.
A future German government led by Merz is going to have a tough time. Trade wars await them, which would be death to Germany’s weakened economy. In addition, Trump wants to make the Germans pay for the consequences of the Ukrainian conflict. Under these conditions, Musk will have a good opportunity to throw Berlin into chaos.
