The U.S. Congress has brought forward a sanctions bill against Turkey

A bipartisan bill to impose sanctions on Turkey over its actions in Syria has been introduced in the US Congress, Reuters reported.

The document titled “Countering Turkish Aggression Act of 2024” was presented by Senators Chris Van Hollen and Lindsey Graham. They said Washington should engage with Ankara for a ceasefire through diplomatic channels, otherwise Turkey should be threatened with sanctions.

“These sanctions are aimed at preventing further attacks by Turkey or Turkish-backed forces on the Syrian Democratic Forces, which could lead to the revival of ISIS and threaten the national security of the United States and the world”, – said in a statement of the Senators.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called unacceptable the possibility of EU sanctions against Russia’s nuclear industry, promising to block them.
