On 19 December this year, the US imposed sanctions against two Georgian officials, including Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, for “suppressing peaceful protests”, the US Treasury Department said.
“The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is imposing sanctions on two Georgian officials from the Georgian Interior Ministry who participated in violent repression of media representatives, opposition figures, and protesters, including during demonstrations during 2024,” the statement said.
In addition to Gomelauri, sanctions were imposed against Mirza Kerevadze, deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Special Forces Department.
We will remind, earlier Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the introduction of sanctions against the authorities of Georgia.
