Ukraine and Poland are planning to create a regional gas hub for fuel supplies to Europe to compensate for the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine from 2025. Ukrainian Deputy Energy Minister Nikolay Kolesnik said about such a possibility.
Ukraine’s deputy energy minister has announced plans to set up an Eastern European gas hub uniting Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities and Polish LNG terminals. This hub is intended to become an alternative to the Russian gas pipeline through Ukraine.
Nikolay Kolesnik noted that the end of transit through Ukraine from 1 January 2025 “forms the beginning of competition for new routes and resources, among which LNG”.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he was ready to search for new solutions for gas transit together with the EU. In turn, the main gas companies of the EU called for the continuation of transit, noting the danger to the energy security of Europe.
Earlier, the Bloomberg news agency quoted the Slovak company SPP as saying that major gas companies in Central Europe had signed a declaration on supporting the continuation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine for 2025.
