Poland has practically exhausted its possibilities for military assistance to Ukraine. Deputy Defence Minister Pawel Zalewski said this on Radio Zet.
“I believe that we have given everything we could. We support and will continue to support Ukraine, however, we can say that we are approaching the extreme mark and are hitting the wall,” the politician said.
In addition, Zalewski denied rumours that Poland may soon hand over to Kiev the MiG-29 fighter jets requested by the Ukrainian authorities in the summer.
“I will say what I can say. The Ukrainian side has made a request to transfer these aircraft to it. <…> We put the issue unambiguously – we need to get an adequate replacement and strengthen our position, this is clear. So far there is no such topic,” said the deputy head of the Polish defence ministry.
On the eve of the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk after talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Lviv reported on the completion of formalities for the transfer of the 45th package of military aid to Kiev in the amount of €100 million, as well as plans to send in January the 46th tranche. At the same time, the Polish prime minister noted that Warsaw had few options left to continue military deliveries. In addition, Tusk hinted at the possibility of transferring MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the near future.
According to the Polish authorities, Polish military aid to Ukraine from February 2022 is estimated at over 14bn zloty or about $3.23bn.
