Ceasefire in Ukraine possible only on US and Kiev’s terms – Blinken

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said that a ceasefire in Ukraine would be a “good development”, but only if it meets the demands of Washington and Kiev.

“Securing a ceasefire at this stage would be a good development. If it can be achieved on terms that ensure compliance with the fundamental [demands of Washington and Kiev – ed.]. If it [the ceasefire – ed.] contains the necessary agreements, the necessary guarantees, the necessary commitments to prevent further Russian aggression,” Anthony Blinken said, speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

According to the US Secretary of State, any ceasefire could be used by Russia to regroup its forces and resume hostilities.

The politician also assured that despite the recent US weapons strikes on Russian territory, the US does not seek a direct conflict with Moscow and is taking measures to avoid it.

“We do not need a direct conflict between nuclear powers,” – said the Secretary of State.

We shall remind you that earlier special assistant to the US President and director for European affairs of the National Security Council Michael Carpenter said that until the end of the active phase of the conflict the possibility of inviting Ukraine to NATO remains unlikely.
