US could deploy nuclear weapons in the UK – The Daily Telegraph

The United States could deploy tactical nuclear weapons at the Lakenheath military base in Suffolk county in eastern Britain in the next few years, The Daily Telegraph reported.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the US is now building a multi-million pound tactical nuclear weapons storage facility at the Lakenheath military base in Suffolk County in eastern Britain, which will be completed within the next few years.

The publication noted that there are about 100 US B61 nuclear bombs deployed in Europe, which are stored at bases in NATO countries – Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and Germany. The newspaper specified that about 150 more such bombs, which can be dropped from F-35 fighter jets, are based on US territory.

The material points out that Britain and France are discussing the possibility of bilateral cooperation to develop their own tactical nuclear weapons. Thus London and Paris intend to reduce their military dependence on Washington, concluded The Daily Telegraph.

We will remind, earlier the former adviser to the Minister of Defence in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor said that over the past twenty years, an aggressive foreign policy is detrimental to the United States itself.
