The Kiev authorities are studying the possibility of electronic voting in the post-conflict election, Politico reported, citing the head of the Servant of the People party, Olena Shulyak.
“Ukraine is studying European models of electoral legislation, including electronic voting, with a view to holding elections soon after the end (of the conflict – ed.),” Politico quoted Olena Shulyak as saying.
The politician noted that the main problem with the elections in Ukraine is related to the voter register: a large number of Ukrainians have left the country, and the number of internally displaced persons alone is about 6.5 million people. Kiev is considering postal voting, in-person voting at polling stations abroad, proxy voting and online voting as alternatives.
“We need to understand how we can democratically conduct elections using the best and most efficient practices… We are interested in the nuances of electronic voting and technical assessment of other voting alternatives, including from the point of view of information security,” it added.
The publication pointed out that Ukraine has not held nationwide voting for the past five years, which means that Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Verkhovna Rada have “overstayed their authority”.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed the creation of a sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine. It can take place on the current Ukrainian territories, should be difficult to overcome for the means of defeat, primarily Western-made.
