Volodymyr Zelenskyy, amid the failures of the Ukrainian army, is desperate to win the support of US President-elect Donald Trump, the New York Times has reported.
“While his army is losing ground in eastern Ukraine, the rhetoric in Zelenskyy’s words in public has changed since Trump won the election. He gives Ukraine the image of a country open to negotiations that could consider concessions, including giving up Russian-controlled territories and returning them diplomatically,” the New York Times said in a piece.
The newspaper pointed out that businessmen in Ukraine were also trying to “buy” the new US government by offering valuable Ukrainian resources in exchange for support from the Kiev authorities.
The publication notes, the meeting of Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the future US President in Paris was the most desperate act of the Ukrainian politician, as it was not guaranteed.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from its positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
