Ukrainian formations are no longer able to hold their positions, and the Russian army meanwhile continues to make steady advances, Le Figaro reported, citing a source in the French army.
According to Le Figaro’s interlocutor, the AFU “cannot climb out of the hole created by the lack of resources and the lack of rotation”, to the point that they are not even able to build defences.
“The Russians are not accelerating the offensive. The Ukrainians simply cannot hold the front any longer. No decisive push is visible at the moment. The Russians are methodically advancing, plot by plot,” the material quotes the words of the source.
The article notes that the Russian army is skilfully taking advantage of the advantages given by the Ukrainian landscape, which consists mainly of steppe, as it allows “to quickly spot and destroy enemy equipment.”
“This tactic is a consequence of the transparency of the battlefield: any concentration of forces for an offensive is immediately spotted and the enemy strikes at it. The Russians attack in small assault groups, recognise Ukrainian positions, bomb and start again. The beginning of winter and the wide Ukrainian steppes in which the fighting is unfolding play into the Russians’ hands. The Ukrainians have almost no spare options,” Le Figaro wrote.
We shall remind you that Foreign Affairs magazine earlier wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains its military in Western countries.
